Let’s talk about your photos, time, money, and marketing. Get these four tools into your webcam modeling arsenal, and you’ll be another four steps ahead.
1. Self-timer
Let’s face it, selfies leave much to be desired. Nobody likes to see your camera in the picture or your arm reaching out in front of you.
Camgirls need to keep their profile pictures updated and the best quality that they can muster with the tools they have.
If you have an HD camera, set it up on a stand or a tripod and use the self-timer. This can take some trial and error if your aim is as bad as mine lol.
Another great tool is your HD webcam. Your built in webcam software probably has an option to snap a picture. Mine gives me a 3 second countdown so I can get into a natural looking position.
If your webcam software doesn’t give you a countdown, my favourite alternative is WebcamToy. Not only does it give you that 3 second countdown, but it also gives you a bunch of filters and special effects to play with. I recommend keeping your main profile picture natural and unfiltered.

2. RescueTime
If you decide to make webcam modeling your primary source of income, time management will be an important skill to master.
RescueTime is an app that runs in the background and analyzes how you use your time on the computer. You can set the productivity score for different sites; for example, you can tell it that when you’re using your cam site of choice you are being Very Productive. They have a premium version and a free version. I’ve always used the free version and I’ve never felt the need to upgrade at all.
Over time you’ll start to see trends in how you spend your time, and you can make changes if you need to. Knowledge is power, as they say.

3. YNAB (You Need A Budget)
You’ll have the potential to make a lot of money if you’re camgirl material. Before you go celebrate with a shopping spree though, install and start using some budget software.
You Need A Budget is my favourite by far, and it doesn’t even work like other budgets that make the word “budget” sound boring and tedious. YNAB’s method revolutionized my finances and I recommend it 100%.
This is the only tool I’m recommending that isn’t free, but they do offer a ton of free training as well as a free trial of the software on their website.
You can totally use the method without the software, but the software does make it easier in my opinion.

4. Twitter
When you choose your performer name, you choose your brand. You should create a matching Twitter account right away even if you’re not sure how to use it yet.
[wp-svg-icons icon=”warning” wrap=”i”] Never post any pictures you’ve used on any real-life accounts, and make sure your tweet location is disabled.

Quick tips on how to use Twitter to your benefit:

If you’re already using any of these tools, I would love to hear how you use them and any thoughts you have about them. Is there a tool you use that isn’t on this list but you think it should be?

I just want to say thank you for taking the time to give such honest, helpful, and no bullshit advice. I feel like all the information I was ever hoping to find, conveniently resides within the blogs you’ve written; incredibly helpful lol. So again, thank you for saving me all those hours I would have spent aimlessly sifting through the marketing ploys and other forms of exaggerated hype before finding anything half as useful <3 🙂
You’re quite welcome Tootsie Cakes! Thanks for reading. 😀
Hi Cat,
You should sell Selfie sticks on your site as an alternative to self timer camera’s for profile pictures. Obscure angle selfies are cute 🙂
Great site by the way 🙂
Hi Wayne,
Thanks for the idea! I am trying to get away from selfies since they tend to be pretty bad quality, but I can see how a selfie stick could make for some cute pics. I’ve never tried one myself, but the concept is great. I’ll have to give it a try before recommending 😉

Hi Cat – Really interesting post – Tools Every Webcam Model Should Be Using. My daughter is thinking about modeling. I’ll make sure I point her this way
Thanks
Mark
Thank you Mark. I hope she finds this helpful! Best, Cat
Just wondering can you use RescueTime for any website at all or is it made around modeling sites?
RescueTime can be used for anything. It just runs in the background and analyzes how you spend your time on your computer. So it’s actually for all websites, and even desktop applications. You can set it up to suit your productivity goals.
These are great tips — I don’t think you need to be a camgirl to benefit from the advice here. thanks for the tips!
Thank you Don! It’s true, these tools are not specifically designed for camgirls of course. Who doesn’t need to master time management and learn to budget effectively. Using Twitter for business is also a transferable skill for sure and, well, the self-timer should take the place of selfies everywhere in my opinion lol. Cheers.
The four tools sound very useful and helpful for any aspiring webcam model. Great post and thanks for sharing 🙂
