O Camgirl

The No-Nonsense Guide to Webcam Modeling

Can Guys Make Money as Webcam Models Too?

My affinity for the term “camgirl” in no way indicates that this job is exclusive to the ladies. The ladies do seem to be better-known than male webcam models. A lot of you have posed the question,

Can guys do this too?

The answer is yes. Webcam modeling includes an entire spectrum of performers. Whether you’re a girl, guy, transgender, or otherwise; there are opportunities for you to make money on cam.

Who’s in a male webcam model’s audience?

All markets are not equal. While a female camgirl caters primarily to straight men, you’ll most often find gay, bi and curious men in a male camboy’s audience. That’s right, males are by far the biggest consumers in the webcam modeling industry. That is not to say that there are no women seeking an interactive video experience. However, my personal experience and conversations with other models does indicate that most of our customers are male.

Male performers come in three flavours:

  • gay, bi or curious

  • gay, bi or curious-for-pay

  • straight

Success will come most easily to a male webcam model who has no problem interacting, flirting and performing shows for other men. This does not mean that he has to be gay. This does mean that he has to be comfortable with his sexuality, just like camgirls.

Straight guys can totally succeed at this gig with the right attitude. This is a question I hear all the time, and I think the mental barrier comes with thinking that “we are what we do.” Performing for gay, bi and curious men does not magically make you any of the above if you weren’t before.

I’m not actually gay, bi or curious. Should I be “gay for pay” or admit to being straight?

This is the first question you’ll need to answer for yourself, as changing your sexual orientation after you’ve already started broadcasting will make you look dishonest to anyone who notices. So, there are pros and cons to both. Let’s see…

Gay for pay:

You may appeal to a wider audience, but you do have to keep up the facade as long as you work on that site. Clients will expect that you know what you’re doing as long as you’re good at the act.

Straight:

It’s easier to be yourself if you’re honest from the start. You will reach more of a niche audience who may be attracted to your “gay virginity.” The illusion of being your “first” will be a selling point. A straight male performer is more likely to end up with the occasional female client.

Do we have any camboys out there? I would love to hear anything you have to add to this topic!

Take it easy.
